Andreas Ulvo - Light & loneliness

- out on new label Atterklang 24.1.11.

Linernote:

"Sometimes it feels natural to take a step back. After doing several recordings in studios with large grand pianos I felt the time was right to go back to the place it all started, to the house where I grew up, to the old Grotrian-Steinweg piano on which I learned to play. Maybe that is why the music on this record is simpler, more poetic than much of my earlier work. This record was made during two days in May, and if you listen closely you may hear the birds sing and the sound of rain against the window."

Else Olsen S. & Sigyn Fossnes

Lotto S.E.L. out on new label Atterklang

Play no music - play Lotto!

This cd is no ordinary cd - it contains the game: Lotto S.E.L. - a game for one or more players - and you don't have to be an artist to participate!

To perform Lotto S.E.L. the participants must first play lotto with the picture cards (image cards) on the map, gladly with your instruments (but this is not necessarily!)

Together with The Toy Orchestra, an orchestra who has specialized to play in corporation with mankind, the duo: Else Olsen S. and Sigyn Fossnes performed the world premiere in Bergen Festspill 2010. Lotto S.E.L is a performance, one of its kind in sound and image!

Toy Orchestra

Toys have, as traditional instruments, great variations in design, sound and sensitivity. Some are soft or dark; others can be sharp, bright, dry or rich. The tonal variations in a toy orchestra with its vitiated overtones are extremely complex, maybe even more than a symphony orchestra! Both of the performers on this cd goes beyond their own instruments together with the toy orchestra and in this way explore a new soundscape!

Smyr - Vandring - AIMCD139

The quartet has developed an extraordinary musical identity during their 13 years of singing together. Their sound nods to modern church music, jazz, folk music and gregorian chant. The music is tailor made to suit the unique qualities each of them bring to the table, and yet, their homogenous sound is one of Smyr’s most defining trademarks.

Green Serene & Per Jørgensen

Living Live - AIMCD136

Green Serene consists of three young, yet acknowledged jazz musicians, educated at the well-known jazz courses in Trondheim and Oslo. Their music has it's roots in European and Scandinavian jazz.

Lisa Dillan - Arousal - AIMCD138

"Energy, and how this manifests in body or voice, gives in many ways similar results in a performing context", Lisa Dillan says. Beside her musical education, she has her background from breakdance, as an active skier and climber, and performance has been a part of her solo concept and coorporations with other artists since 2004. Her newest soloalbum "Arousal", this time a double production of CD and DVD with six short films.

Gunvald Ensemble - Things to do - AIMCD132

Things To Do is a subtle and poetic record mainly consisting of songs for vocal and piano. The four singers come from different genres and styles. This makes Things To Do a varied and different listening experience.

Baritone saxophone and double bass provides colour to the duos and gives the listener breathing space between the songs with short instrumental pieces. The harmonics and melodies of the songs are complex at the same time as calmness and serenity are qualities that characterise the album. The music is a mix between jazz, the German lied, and the American singer-songwriter tradition. All lyrics and music are written by Gunvald Hagen.

Marianne Halmrast Kvintett - AIMCD137

Eivind Lønning - trumpet

Marianne Halmrast – bass

Kristoffer Alberst - tenor saxofone

Petter Vågan - guitar and electronics

Dag Erik Knardal - drums

The Marianne Halmrast Quintet performs Halmrast`s own compositions. These works range from compositions with boisterous jazz themes to melancholic ballads where both the twinkle in one`s eye and earnestness are apparent. Some of the melodies has a touch of humor in them; whereas, in others, one hears inspiration from the 60`s and the modal jazz style.
